The EllaLink submarine cable system -that is part of the BELLA Programme- that will connect Europe & South America, will be inaugurated in the framework of the “Leading the Digital Decade 1-2 June 2021” event (June 1 and 2, from 10:00 to 17:30 CET). Within the programme of the first day, in the slot that runs from 16:30 to 17:15 CET, “International Partnerships for The Digital Decade”, the leaders of GÉANT and RedCLARA will refer to the importance of BELLA.

One of the major aims behind the BELLA Programme has been the union of Latin America and Europe through a submarine cable of very high capacity and very low latency, benefiting science, research and education collaboration and development between both regions. Now, thanks to the excellent work carried out by EllaLink we arestarting to achieve that goal and closing the connectivity gap thanks to 6000km of digital data highway.

The EllaLink Cable will be launch at 11:30 CET, June 1, within the “EllaLink cable session”, that will count with the participation of Pedro Siza Vieira, Minister of Economy and Digital Transition of Portugal, Marcos Pontes, Minister for Science Technology and Innovation of Brazil, Philippe Dumont, Ellalink President, and Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO of Nokia.

During the European evening and the Latin American morning, at 16:30 CET, the BELLA Programme and its submarine and terrestrial components will be highlighted by the CEO’s of RedCLARA and GÉANT at the “International Partnerships For The Digital Decade” session. This session will focus on the relevance of digital partnerships as a new opportunity, and will count with the participation of:
